I haven't read it. Was it any good? I got the impression it was a bit too optimistic about the power of nanotech.

Yes, it is a good book. I have mentioned it on the roleplaying suggestions for gamemasters page, as well as many other books more relevant for one or two colonies rather than the whole setting.

You might notice that some words from Slant are found among the different planets' versions of english.
