Now another one for the pile: Slant by Greg Bear. Interesting ideas on the use of free roaming nanotech and the eco-AI that turns up offers some intriguing ideas for a Arcadian genius to throw together.
Also Green-Idaho with its super conservative attitudes may make a model for the various fundie sects of New America (before the Li absorption) and the fundamentalist sects of Dionysos.
