      The
Lamplandae are the remnants of many different cultures and timelines. Like
the Karnetn they are Neanderthal-derived, although racially they are far
more diverse than a single timeline could ever be. They are to a large extent
former disparates, although some major immigration contingents also appear
to have arrived. Overall it seems that the Neanderthal civilizations tended
more towards bursts and significant time travel (and time-war) than the
      Homo sapiens civilizations.
As they arrived, many complex and devastating conflicts broke out. They
competed for the best habitats, found irreconcilable ideological differences
and interfered with each other's timeline projects. The end result was
scattered nations across Namaqua, with uncertain relations and limited
trade. As a rule the surviving settlements were either "monarchies" centered
on the few Lamplandae with access to the most advanced technology (ranging
up to TL 11) who hence could protect and provide for their followers,
or caste based theocratic/socialistic societies. It appears that Lamplandae
have a somewhat higher tendency to form hierarchical societies than Homo
sapiens, although some sociologists claim that the situation was on the
verge of turning less strict when the main Homo sapiens societies arrived
        on the scene.
Today most of the Lamplandae cultures have formed a federation, Conventus
Lamplandae. The Conventus originally formed to counter the spread of Aquincorum
but eventually became its foremost Lamplandae ally. The Conventus is dominated
by the current Fygjkha ("foremost nation"), which represents it in the
NRC, interfaces with the Consensus and generally has great power in foreign
policy (but practically none on the domestic policy of the other members).
The Fygjikha is selected through a complex political competition among
the members every 5 years, where different alliances and votes are taken
to determine which group can acquire most influence.
