The body was still alive when they found it, although it was in a bad condition according to the very preliminary medical examination I managed to lift. The growths doesn't just look like black plants, they are indeed plants. Lotus blossoms. If the report is right, they seem to have sprouted from his nerves. I managed to get the genome transcript and have included it for you - I guess you and your friends will have a heyday with it. But from what I could get, it is real lotus DNA being expressed, it has all the signs of being a real Black Lotus action and the "victim" is none other than Pavel Iachemir Macheshich. As I guess you don't know, Pavel has been on our whale's top ten list as being the Black Lotus of Sudak for several weeks. He was one of the hypernationalist terrorist networkers that really made us nervous, with connections to both the GFA and Black Sea Front. He had not been seen for several weeks before Sudak and the other enclaves were hit a month ago with those neogene nasties, and it fitted perfectly with the pattern of someone becoming a host, training in isolation and then starting to use their powers. Some other circumstantial evidence hinted that he could be the one, but he was of course very good at hiding his tracks (you better be here - there are more gnatbots here than mosquitos in Pripyat). What nobody could figure out was where Pavel had got the dragon pearl. He simply didn't have that kind of connections, and messing up Ukraine doesn't seem to be high on anyone's agenda, regardless of what the SBU would like to think. Now we think we have a theory. Black Lotus gave it to him. Tonight a manifesto popped up among the lotus-eaters, with all the right authentifications - including the tone. It just said "Anyone calling themselves Black Lotus better be up to it", followed by a protein sequence that was found in Pavel. Nice, isn't it? Telling their copycats that they might be targets too. The point is, Black Lotus knew how to get to Pavel somehow. Since he was very good for a domestic terrorist, I doubt they could have sent a hit squad or anything like it. But what if they were the ones who gave him the power? I don't know how they did that, maybe mailed the pearl to him, but they didn't just give him the power, they also included some trigger. We are looking in town now for some trigger plasmid and hope you can help. But my intuition tells me this is how it went. It fits with the profile of Black Lotus - all that sinister mega-anarchy and bipolar extroversion - to give random terrorists (and maybe others - that could explain the Osaka transformation) neogenetic powers, and then destroy them spectacularly if they are not good enough. The details about Pavel's neogenetics were clamped down by the Naval Counterintelligence Anti-terrorist Department (they do the neogenetic stuff here) and SBU together, but I bet that they found a growth in his head based not on any of our lines but on the original Black Lotus strain. Remember what the Fujayrah managed to pick up after the Dubai incident - those maniacs also had the strain. The SBU are doing a big silence deal of the whole affair. But if I'm right, Black Lotus are going to be furious at that, being the CNN junkies they are. So be prepared for something big, messy and ominous here in Krimea in a few days.
